The family gift for viticulture has been handed down since the 1930s from Pietro Costa, native of Cossano Belbo, worked these vineyards as a sharecropper (mezzadria) in the 1950’s and studied at the enological school in Alba. Twenty eight years later his son Adriano and his grandson Ermanno founded the “Ermanno Costa – Cascina Spagnolo”. They purchased the property seeking to make wines with their family’s name on the bottle, the first vintage being 1981. Today the fourth generation carries on the family business and passion in Ermanno’s children, Simone (winemaker), Fabrizia and Giorgia.
